First just try to tune the cleanest unisons possible that seem to fade quickly. Unisons are a whole separate art altogether. Just do the grind and know you'll come out a better person for it. I generally use the latter method and tune up to pitch then let the pin down slightly to keep the tuning more stable. You can use smaller, faster movements to try to set things immediately and have them stay in place, or tune in smooth movements and get a feel for how much you need to turn the pin in the opposite direction after setting the pitch to even out tension in the string. Really, this is about just making octaves sound clean, and making other intervals that don't sound too "close" when played. Inharmonicity can be harder to understand, but it comes down to needing to make the higher notes increasingly more sharp and the lower notes increasingly more flat to balance out generally the second partial of the octave below each note with the fundamental of the higher one.
